Accident & Emergency (A&E)

A&E Departments should be used by people who require immediate treatment for a serious injury or illness.

At A&E a doctor or nurse will assess your condition and decide on further action, including how quickly you need to be seen. You usually have to wait before you are treated, particularly on Friday or Saturday nights. A&E departments try to see, diagnose and treat 95% of people within four hours of arrival.
