People who came to the UK as children wanted for study PDF Print E-mail

Sara Thommessen, PhD researcher at City University would like to invite individuals who are aged between 20-35 years of age, and who arrived to the UK when they were between the ages of 7-17, to participate in a study.

She is interested in hearing about your personal experience of what it was like to arrive to the UK as a child or adolescent, and what was difficult and helpful for you back then. This information will be used to help children and adolescents who are now in the situation you were in, when you first came to this country. We will not refer to your name or anything else which might identify who you are, at any point, and all information will be treated as completely confidential.

This study will involve an interview (lasting approximately 30 minutes) with Sara Thommessen, and she will work around your schedule to find a suitable time for you.

More Information

During the interview, you will decide what you would like to tell us. We will not ask you any direct questions. Instead, we will ask you open questions, such as: “Would you like to tell me a little about the time when you arrived in the UK?” or “During the first years of living in the UK, what was most difficult / helpful for you?” We will also ask you what advice you would give to people working with refugee children today.

The study aims to give refugees a voice and to share their knowledge, thereby influencing the work of this research, and helping refugee children. If you do choose to participate, this could be a good way for you to talk about your experience of arriving to the UK. The information and knowledge we gain from the interview will help us to help refugee children in the near future.

Your name will remain confidential after the interview. When we finish all the interviews, you can hear about our findings, if you wish to. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have before you make your decision. If you have any questions about this study, or if you would like to participate, please contact Sara Thommessen.
