Consultation on forced marriage PDF Print E-mail

The Government is seeking views on whether it should be a criminal offence to force someone to marry or whether the current arrangements provide adequate protection.  A forced marriage is described in the paper as a marriage in which one or both spouses do not (or in the case of some vulnerable adults, cannot) consent to the marriage but are coerced into it.  This coercion can include physical, psychological, financial, sexual and emotional pressure.

Consultation closes on 30 March 2012
