Get involved in a new Government disability strategy

Thursday 1st March

Service users: 2pm  - 4pm

The Afiya Trust has been invited to contribute directly to a new cross-government disability strategy which aims to “to enable disabled people to fulfill their potential and have opportunities to play a full role in society “.

We would like to invite you to our discussion event(s) to gather your views to make sure we represent the experiences of our members. The discussion will focus on issues such as:

·       Disability and race discrimination

·       Personalisation and choice

·       Access to health and social services

·       Promoting service users and carer voices

·       Exploring marginalised disabled voices  e.g. deaf and blind people

Travel expenses will be paid to participants and food and refreshments will be provided.

Programme Advisory Board members

Help lead England’s most ambitious movement to end mental health discrimination

We are looking for a Lived Experience Advisor, and two organisational representatives to join the Time to Change Programme Advisory Board.  The Board will support Time to Change to achieve its outcomes by bringing experience and expertise to the programme.

We are recruiting for the following roles:

  • Lived Experience Advisor (mental health service user, paid role)

You will need personal experience of mental health problems and of working to address discrimination and stigma.   This role will be paid at Time to Change’s standard rate and all expenses will be reimbursed.

  • Black and Minority Ethnic Organisational Representative (unpaid role)

You will bring expertise in working to engage BME communities in mental health issues, particularly in relation to addressing stigma and discrimination.

  • Organisational Representative / Expert from the children and young people’s sector (unpaid role)

You will bring expertise in working with children and young people on mental health issues, particularly in relation to addressing stigma and discrimination.

About the roles

The appointed Advisors and Representatives can be based anywhere in England.  They will be expected to attend bi-annual meetings in London, and prepare for the meetings by reading papers.

All Advisors will need to evidence how they meet the criteria set out in the person specification.

Time to Change encourages applications from diverse communities and people with lived experience of mental health problems and considers such experience a positive attribute for all roles.
