melissa Melissa Berry Central London Community Healthcare
judith Judith Blakeman Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea I am a local resident, Labour councillor for the Notting Barns ward in North Kensington and a trustee of the Migrant and Refugee Communities' Forum. My interest in health matters stemmed from the time when I chaired the KCW Community Health Council between 1997 and 2003 and as Director of the Socialist Health Association. As Chair of the CHC and with two colleagues, we led the consultation process that established the KCW BME Health Forum in the late 1990s. This was promoted by the then Kensington, Chelsea and Westminster Health Authority in a drive to improve communication between the local NHS and hard-to-reach and other minority communities in the two boroughs. My concern now is to ensure that minority communities do not lose their voice and influence in the forthcoming changes as the provision of primary health and social care is increasingly devolved to local authorities.

lev Lev Pedro Kensington & Chelsea Social Council

I have been working in the voluntary sector since 1987. I ran a health charity for many years, and have been with the Social Council since 2005. At the Social Council, I work with voluntary and community organisations, mainly helping them to develop partnerships and prepare for public-sector commissioning. I’ve been actively working with the BME Health Forum since 2007, and I’m particularly interested in supporting community groups to have influence, a voice, and access to funding and commissioning opportunities. I believe that we have some fantastic organisations locally, and I have been inspired to see how projects run at a grass-roots level can have a great impact. I am proud to be a member of the BME Health Forum steering group.
